May 6th, 2012: Do you remember your first Monday on the journey? Or your first Sunday? If this is your first Sunday – I am wishing for you some good luck, but on this day, more than luck, you mostly need to have grit. You just bear-down and ride this shit out. Even if you sit there and watch the clock all day, I promise you the day will end and you’ll be waking up to one of the best Monday mornings in recent memory.
Everybody else and their hungover asses will be dragging into work with sick stomachs and guilt and you’re gonna feel just slightly superior. I recommend you own that feeling and remember it.
I weighed in at 270 lbs. today. Guess I’ll have to battle a little more than I thought to move on from the 70’s. But I’m stayin’ alive. Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother, just keep stayin’ alive.
May 6th, 2020: I’ve brought up one method from the program before, and here I bring it up again. It’s kind of like a reverse-binge, maybe? I recommend doing this when you’re feeling deprived or you’re feeling weak:
You need to identify one food on your new diet that you kind of enjoy. And on that day, the day you feel like giving up on this program, bring that food you enjoy out of the fridge or pantry and throw the fuckin thing away. Add dish soap to it if necessary.
Then identify one workout on your exercise plan that really challenges you – or find a new one that just looks hard as hell. And on that day, you put on the proper exercise clothes and you do that fucking workout.
Mike Tyson says discipline is “doing something you hate, but nonetheless, doing it like you love it”.
So you chuck that food and grind out that exercise, and “reverse-binge”, and you do this like you wish you had the opportunity every single day, and tomorrow you won’t be feeling so sorry for your sissy little ass.
