Day 79

March 20th, 2012: Rolling right along!  2 more pounds down today.  I paid for them, though, sonofabitch. My legs and hands were shaking after boxing last night.  Here is 285.

Quotes from others aren’t something I live by in life, but they do add spice every now and then, or add emphasis – kind of like the Tapitio hot sauce or red pepper flakes I put on everything I eat.

I was watching an interview with Don Henley, and he said “one of my keys to success has always been my high tolerance for repetition”.  I was thinking about that – and he’s right, even though you can change your food choices and exercise choices every day, probably like the band practices different songs, you still have to be tolerant of that repetition, that unending practice. And the practice has to be solid, you can’t just go through the motions.  I’ve gotta realize that – they say there’s what, like 10,000 hours of practicing to get good? 10,000 hours of repetitive and hard work.  Just got to keep hammering away at that concrete (Andy Dufresne).  Hammer away at that fat, and it’s gonna give up before you do!

How about some Eagles lyrics as applied to life and weight loss:

  1. Hotel California – “you can check out, but you can never leave . . .” It’s kind of like choosing to lose weight and do this challenge.  It’s lifelong, and you could quit (you can check out), but your weight problems won’t go away (but you can never leave).
  2. The Long Run – “Who is gonna’ make it, we’ll find out, in the long run . . .the long run”.  Kind of like when you told people you were going to lose weight and they scoffed at you.
  3. Don Henley (solo)/The Last Worthless Evening – “This is the last worthless evening that you’ll ever spend . . .” Like the last night you spent before you started on this journey.
  4. Take It Easy – “Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy”.  Don’t need to explain that one, do I?

Gotta go get on that damn treadmill and get to work adding some practice hours.

March 20th, 2020: I get on a roll and I’ll fuckin rock and roll; and there’s not much that can stop me.  Something will eventually, but I can’t dwell on it.  It’s out there, they’re out there, there’s always a storm building.  The world will do what the world will do, and sometimes I’m just a passenger.

Before I was moved to playing defense as a middle-linebacker, I played running-back in my football days.  I was given a lot of work, and loved it – a lot of carries, not many that resulted in huge yardage gains, though.  Here’s where the analogy lies:  There were a few times when that hole between the guard and tackle would open, and I could see nothing but daylight man, all the way to the end zone.  It would be awesome if that could happen with the program.

It would’ve be much easier in 2012 if I could’ve got one long run into my goal weight.   Short of amputating an ass-cheek or two, I realized that wasn’t going to happen, so it was a matter of banging into the defenders for 2- and 3-yard gains over and over again.  Let them bastards know you’re gonna be there every day.  The reality is, however, that they’re just as tough as you, and they’re going to be there every day too.  But I learned that they can be beat every day, as long as I showed up.
